The Ugly Games

Some casino table games are so disadvantageous to players that they can only be described as ugly. Play these games if you need a major tax write-off, enjoy losing money, or think that you have the natural ability to overcome insurmountable odds! A few examples are:
Big 6 Wheel
This game is played by matching the dollar and symbol amounts displayed on a wheel which spins until it eventually stops on a winning number or symbol. Prior to the spin, wagers are placed on the layout in boxes labeled $1 to $20, joker, or flag, that correspond to the choices displayed on the wheel. The players who correctly guess the stop point on the wheel are the winners, and are paid off at odds ranging from even money to forty-five to one. All non-matching bets lose.
There is no recommended strategy for this game, other than to find a "biased wheel" (one that pays more often on certain numbers due to a malfunction), and the casino enjoys an edge of from 11.1 percent to 22.2 percent. Don't play this ugly game!
sic Bo
The object of this game is to guess which dice numbers or combinations of numbers will appear when three dice are rolled. With over fifty betting options available as either single-die, twodice, or three-dice wagers, and payoffs ranging from even money to fifty to one, it would seem that expert strategy would improve the player's chances of winning. In fact this is not the case with this game, because the payoff odds don't come close to matching the true odds of combinations of numbers appearing on the three dice. Consequently the casinos have an edge of 7.87 percent to an incredible 472 percent on all but two of the possible bets. If you must play this game, make the even-money wager on the small bet or the large bet, which still gives a 2.8 percent edge to the casino. In my opinion, you've got to be a sick boy to play Sic Bo!

Keno
Read my chapter on Keno in this book. This game has house advantages of 25 to 40 percent-draw your own conclusions.
I have no doubt that as time passes and casinos become more competitive, the number of good games, those with house edges of less than 2 percent, will increase if you, the player, become better educated. As long as uneducated casino gamblers continue to play new games or variations of the standard games, the casinos will continue to offer them. It's only when players learn the difference between the good, the bad, and the ugly games, and stop playing the bad and ugly ones, that they will eventually disappear from the casino floor.
