Tips for Hi-Opt I Players

I never cease to be amazed at the places and situations in which I find good game conditions. On one disastrous trip, I found them right under the nose of a pit boss! I was making a quick stop in Las Vegas for about six hours on my way out to Los Angeles for a speech. It was only about a half hour before I had to leave far the airport and I was way down. I had lost three playing-session bankrolls in separate sittings and I had to leave soon.

I decided to try one more shot at a nearby casino since the casino I was in was packed to the maximum. There was hardly a seat free. As is often the case, the casino next door was nearly empty. I sat down at an empty table and began to play. The dealer was bored stiff, and silently began to deal after curtly handling all of my "get friendly" questions. It was a one-deck game; the dealer was extremely fast and wasn't too careful about how far he dealt into the deck. I began winning immediately.

Nervously glancing at my watch, I only hoped I had enough time to get even before I had to leave. To my dismay, though, the pit boss came over and started talking to the dealer. The last thing I wanted was a pit boss hampering my play. At lcast tlve conversation was very interesting. They talked abvut the NCAA basketball championships that were going on at the time, about good Italian restaurants, about people they knew. I was lcarinlots of juicy gossip. But better yet, I was play ing cvcu more atggressivcly without any problem.

The reason my play went unnoticed was that the pit boss talking to the dealer was leaning with his back up against the table.
The dealer was turned toward the pit boss and watching for my signals out of the corner of his eye. He played the cards almost absent-mindedly and made the proper payoffs. His real attention was on the conversation. I was happy for the cloak of invisibility and distraction because the dealer was dealing near the end of the deck and no one was monitoring my bets. In the short period before I had to leave, I made up all my losses and gained about half a session's bankroll. I had perfect game conditions with a pit boss standing at my table!

The difference between just playing with the Hi-Opt I system and playing profitably with the Hi-Opt I system is often very fine. The tips in this chapter can help you achieve the best possible results in casino play. Following the organization in Chapter Five, "How to Play Smart (Without a System)," you will learn how to manage yourself, stay ahead of the dealer, and keep clear of the casino bosses.
